Tuning a 4 String Bass BEAD (or, the lower 4 strings of a 5 string bass) is not a new development. However, players had to either purchase strings separately or a 5 string set and throw away the G string to be able to do this. With the BEAD Tuned Bass Boomers® sets from GHS Strings, players can now buy the exact sets they want without the previous hassle.
WARNING: These sets are optimized for BEAD tuning on a 4 string bass. Do NOT attempt to tune these sets up to standard EADG tuning.

These strings are great. I've been an EADG tuned player since I started playing bass. I've been wanting to get that low B, but haven't found a 5 string that was comfortable to me. I decided I would try the BEAD tuning and came across this set of 4 strings designed just for that rather than buying a 5 string set and tossing the G. I couldn't be happier with the tone. The B "growls". Plus, to play songs where I did use the G string, for the most part I can simply adjust my finger position up the neck, where the stretch between frets is less. I actually find it more comfortable and my hand is less fatigued at the end of a practice or gig.
