Here is where you can purchase loop end singles for use on any instrument that takes them (banjo, mandolin, mandola, dulcimer, bouzouki, etc..). These are extra long (45") to fit on a variety of instruments.
My instruments are Baltic Psalteries. They require loop end plain steel strings in the range of .010" to .017". I have been using GHS since I started building the instruments because I can get the gauges I need (except for .0135" where I use a ball-end and make my own loop). I have been extremely happy with the quality of the strings and the quick service.
For over thirty five years my two dulcimers have been strung with ghs; two 12's, a 13, and a 16. They bring out the sound and everyone likes it. To preserve the 16 gauge strings, I keep the dulcimers in a key; only slightly adjusting them. The unwound strings resist better when searching different tunings.
Good service from phone contact & online ordering. Will use the GHS strings again( heavy handed, novice 1st time mandolin player). Thanks
I use these strings for the 5th string on my banjo rather than the L10s that come with most sets because I have a heavy thumb. The L11s dampen the volume of the 5th string slightly, which helps. As far as I know, GHS is the only source of single steel loop end .011" diameter strings.
